Wanda L. Russell, 83, of Burlington, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at her home. Born February 7, 1925, in Marion County, she was the daughter of H. Jud and Rilla Irving Askren. On July 12, 1942, she married Harold F. Russell in Trenton, MO. He died March 28, 1994. Mrs. Russell was a homemaker. She was a 1942 graduate of Chariton High School. She was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and their Lydia Group, Golden Oldies, R.S.V.P., Women of the Moose, Fraternal Order of Eagles Women's Auxiliary and Prime Time. She also volunteered at Great River Medical Center, Klein Center. Survivors include two sons, Larry Russell of Burlington and Lynn Russell of Dennison, Texas; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Lyle Askren of Granbury, Texas, and Walden Askren of Muscatine; and special friend, Richard Oetken of Burlington. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Russell will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Burlington, with Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for First Christian Church Disciples of Christ.
