Obituary

William Edward Rothlauf, 81, formerly of West Burlington, died at 1:10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, at Fort Madison Health Center in Fort Madison.

Born Dec. 4, 1926, in Burlington, he was the son of Albert John and Nannie Olson Rothlauf. On June 5, 1949, he married Helen Louise Ellis in Burlington.

Mr. Rothlauf worked for Chicago Tramrail, Trane Co., Murray Iron Works, J.I.Case and Midwest Biscuit. He served in the Navy and Naval Reserve during World War II and the Korean War. He enjoyed watching westerns and action shows on TV, coin collecting and reading about the USS Birmingham. He collected model ships and pencil sharpeners. He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Survivors include his wife; three sons, David Rothlauf and Mike Rothlauf, both of West Burlington, and Ken Rothlauf of Fort Madison; one daughter, Nancy Tracy of Waxahacie, Texas; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters and one stepgrandson.

Visitation with family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Prugh's Chapel.

The funeral for Mr. Rothlauf will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Tom Smith officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for First Christian Church and Alzheimer's Association.
