Obituary
John Roth, prominent farmer and life resident of Des Moines county, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Mercy hospital . He suffered a stroke Dec. 13. He was born on a farm south of Burlington and lived there all his life. Son of John and Magdelena Adams Roth, he was born Sept. 12, 1858. He married Augusta Anna Bokenkamp Nov. 24, 1880. She died July 6, 1936. Until 6 weeks ago he took an active part in the farm operations. He was active in civic and county affairs, and served on the school board many years. Surviving are 2 sons, Clarence Roth, Little Rock, Ark., and Lyman Roth, Concordia township; 2 grandsons, John T. Roth, and Frederic Roth, of Burlington; one granddaughter, Mrs. Norman Faust, Little Rock, Ark.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Sophia Bloomer, and Mrs. J. J. Homan, 7 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Giles funeral home Friday at 2 p.m. with burial in Aspen Grove cemetery. Rev. A.R. Bernadt will officiate.
