Betty J. Roth, 80, of Burlington, died at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Burlington Care Center. Born March 21, 1927, in Lansing, Mich., she was the daughter of Harry and Exia O. Smith Hippe. On Nov. 3, 1948, she married Dwain L. Roth in Burlington. He died on March 13, 2003. Mrs. Roth was a registered nurse and a homemaker. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington. She received psychiatric training in Moose Lake, Minn., and pediatric training at Mercy Hospital in Chicago. She worked for the Des Moines County Health Center during school vaccinations and worked as a private duty nurse. She was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ. She was involved in both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed traveling, camping, crocheting and knitting. She loved animals. Survivors include two daughters, Diana Green of Silver Springs, Md., and Marcia Conn of West Burlington; one son, Philip K. Roth of Burlington; and four grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and an infant brother. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral and interment for Mrs. Roth will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Aspen Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Dean Moberg officiating. A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
