Charles Lorenzo Bennett, 73, died at 5:30 am Wednesday at his home on Ft. Madison Rd., one-quarter mile south of the south city limits.
Dr. Evan Peterson, Des Moins county medical examiner, said death was dues to natural causes.
Mr. Bennett was a maintenance mechanic at the IAAP for a number of years; he was compelled to retire in 1950 as a result of injuries suffered in an explosion at the plant. He was a native of La Harpe, Ill., and was born Jan. 24, 1893, the son of Raymond A. and Lillian Mesecher Bennett. Mr. Bennett married Ada Susan Jones at Carthage, Ill., on Dec. 30, 1915.
Surviving: The wife; sons Elza J., Edward, Lloyd, and Donal Bennett, all of Burlington and Leland Bennett of Terre Haute, Ill.; daughters Mrs. Hazel Huffman of Burlington and Mrs. Helen Atkins of Lehigh, Fla.; 25 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Also brothers Ira Bennett of Sylia, Wash.; Elmer Bennett of La Harpe; George Bennett, Macomb, Ill.’ And Homer Bennett of Rock Island, Ill., and sisters Mrs. Vergie Brunson, Burnside, Ill.; Mrs. Ida Feno of Harlan, and Mrs. Coraharding of Blandinsville, Ill.
Services: Saturday at 2 pm Prugh’s Chapel, the Rev. George Pennington, Aspen Grove Cemetery.
