Lauren F. (Pete) Benner, 73, retired vice president of Benner Tea Co., and son of Benner founder Arthur J. Benner, succumbed to a heart ailment Thursday, Jan. 16, at Clearwater, Fla.
His home was at 3318 Nineteenth Pl., SW, Largo, Fla. He retired from Benner Tea Co., in 1961 after more than 40 years of service, and since that time had operated Highlander Center coin laundry in Largo.
He was born Aug. 30, 1895, the son of Arthur J. and Emily Gertrude Smith Benner. He graduated from Burlington high school and attended Iowa State University prior to enlisting in the US Army on July 14, 1917. He served until June 28, 1919.
He was married to Ocean L. LaGrille in 1934.
He was of the Presbyterian faith and was a 32nd degree Mason. In Burlington, he was a member of the Elks lodge and the Golf and Rotary clubs.
He was a member of the Night Noon club of Clearwater and Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
Surviving: The wife; one son, BK Benner, Springfield, Va.; and one sister, Mrs. Florence B. Wylie of Bloomington, Ind.
A memorial service will be held at the Hubbel funeral home, in Largo at 7:30 Friday, to be followed by burial in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a date to be announced.
