Jeanette E. Rohde, 85, a 60 year resident of 209 Summer Street, West Burlington, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at Rosebush Garden Assisted Living. Born April 11, 1924, in West Burlington, she was the daughter of LeRoy C. and Florence (Johnson) Glenn. On May 6, 1945, she married Kermit K. Rohde at Immanuel Lutheran Church in West Burlington. He preceded her in death on November 30, 2003. Jeanette was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School. Her lifelong career as a secretary began at CB&Q Railroad when she was 17. She was an avid reader and had excellent editing and stenographic skills. She worked at Hope Haven Development Center for over 10 years before retiring in 1988. Jeanette was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington, where she also belonged to Sarah Group of ELCA. She and Kermit shared a great love of music and were both members of Messiah's choir for over 50 years. Survivors include her son, Dan (Mary Kay) Rohde of Muscatine; her daughter, Beth (Jim) Peterson of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Daniel Peterson (Mary Yagla) and Katie Peterson of Iowa City, and Anne Rohde of Muscatine; three nieces and two nephews. Her husband, parents, and sisters, Irene Nickelsen and Joanne Preuss, preceded her in death.
