Sherry Lynn Benkert, 47, of 606 S. Garfield, Burlington died at 3:30 pm Sunday, Dec. 4, 1994, at Burlington Medical Center.
Born Dec. 17, 1946, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Wesley George and Frances J. Anderson Benkert.
Ms. Benkert graduated from Burlington High School and the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls with a BA Degree. She was in The Customer Relations office and a salesperson at Deery Brothers, Inc. She was a teacher at Corse School for three years and did substitute teaching. She ran a ceramic shop. She found families that would host foreign exchange students herself.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was a Sunday School teacher there.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Earle Freitag, of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers.
Friends may call after 3 pm today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm.
The funeral for Ms. Benkert will be at 10:30 am Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Barrie Tritle officiating. Burial will be at Aspen Grove cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the First United Methodist Church.
