Stephen Hampton Ringold, 72, of Burlington, died at 7:29 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospital. Stephen was born on November 8, 1936, in Burlington, the son of Laurence B. and Dorothy Turner Ringold. He married Betty Jean Miers on January 28, 1963, at the First Christian Church in Ft. Madison, IA. Stephen served in the U.S. Army. He was a heavy equipment operator and lifetime member of Local 150 Operating Engineers. He was a member of the Eagles Club and Ducks Unlimited. He was an avid duck hunter on the Mississippi River. He also loved dirt track racing. He enjoyed socializing and playing cards with friends. He drove for Star Force with the U.S. Government, transporting new recruits or personnel on leave. He owned and operated Blackhawk Gun Club. He was affiliated with the First Congregational Church. He is survived by his wife Betty; two sons, Stephen Laurence Ringold, Jr. of Burlington, and Bradley Mark Ringold of Davenport; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Debra Mae Ringold; two brothers; and a stillborn sister. The ash committal service at Aspen Grove Cemetery will be a private service. The family will receive friends at a Celebration of Life service at Prugh's Chapel on Monday evening, June 29, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. A memorial has been established in memory of Stephen H. Ringold.
