Obituary
Jimilee Michael Riney, 73, of Burlington passed on to his heavenly home Friday, May 16, 2014, at the Great River Hospice House in Burlington after a battle with cancer.
Born February 25, 1941 in Winchester, Missouri, he was the son of Richard Carlyle and Iva Maxine Bick Riney. On February 12, 1961 he married Erna Thirtyacre in Kahoka, Missouri.
Mr. Riney's great-grandparents founded the town of St. Patrick, Missouri.
He graduated from Kahoka High School in 1959 and entered the U.S. Navy at 17 years old where he served aboard the USS Princeton from 1959 to 1961 then retired from the U.S. Navy ranked Chief Boatswains Mate in 1987 with 28 years of service for his country. He retired from J.I. Case in 1992 with 30 years of service then worked 16 years for Hy-Vee Food Store on Agency until his illness.
Mr. Riney attended First Baptist Church of Wayland, Missouri; First Baptist Church of Fort Madison, Iowa and was a past charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Burlington, Iowa.
He loved traveling, horses, rodeos, listening to country music, watching NASCAR, attending his grandchildren's school/sports functions and just spending time with his family. He was an Iowa Hawkeyes and Missouri Tigers fan but especially loved the Denver Broncos. He was also proud of his Native American heritage.
Survivors include his wife; two sons Michael Riney of Burlington and Mark (Kerry) Riney of Des Moines; two daughters Kimberly (Kevin) Nihart of Ankeny and Dawn (Larry) Helling of Fort Madison; grandchildren Jennifer (David) Hartwig, Christopher Sessions, Zachary (Kailee) Nihart, Aaron Sessions, Joshua Sessions, Kayla Riney, Karlee Sessions, Dakota Nihart, Brianne Riney, Cody Nihart and Madison Riney; two step-grandchildren Derrik Helling and Macy Helling; his brother's children Kevin (Amy) Riney and Katie (Chris) Stump of Hanford, California; and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The funeral service for Mr. Riney will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Nihart, Dan Deatrick and Mr. Aaron Sessions officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Thielen Funeral Home following the burial.
