Edith Lucille Benedict, 85, of Burlington, died at 12:48 a.m. Monday, September 6, 2010, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born May 17, 1925, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Henry Harlan and Edith Losey Smith. On May 17, 1946, she married Marion Benedict, Jr. in Burlington. He died in April 1989. Mrs. Benedict was a homemaker. She was a member of Mediapolis Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing Bingo and time with family. Survivors include one son, Bruce Benedict, Sr. of Burlington; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Prugh's Chapel in Burlington. The graveside funeral for Mrs. Benedict will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, with the Rev. Randy Langner officiating. A memorial has been established for the Salvation Army.
