Doris R. Benedict, 82, of Burlington, died at 9:35 pm Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born June 26, 1922, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Herman and Lydia Engel Gieselman. On Jan. 24, 1948, she married James Benedict in Burlington.
Mrs. Benedict was a homemaker. She also worked at Winegard Co. and Noelke-Lyon Manufacturing.
She was a 1940 graduate of Burlington High School and a graduate of Burlington Business College. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and Friendly Neighbors and Motorettes. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, antique car rides, and flower and vegetable gardening.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Patricia Neal and Susan Blythe, both of Burlington; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Warren Gieselman of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 pm Friday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm.
The funeral for Mrs. Benedict will be at 10 am Saturday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Tevis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for First United Methodist Church.
