Obituary
Mr. Rolland M. Richardson, 87, of Burlington, died at 12:36 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2011, at Great River Medical Center.
Born July 19, 1923 in Burlington, he was the son of Paul W. and Anna May Moberg Richardson. On September 27, 1952 he married Dorothy H. Lobona in Fort Madison. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2008.
Mr. Richardson was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a World War II Air Force veteran serving in Anchorage, Alaska.
Mr. Richardson was a sales representative for Union Supply Company for 30 years. He had previously owned and operated Dot's Record Center.
Mr. Richardson was a lifelong member of West Hill United Methodist Church. He was the youngest member to become the Exalted Ruler of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He was also a member of YMCA and a past member of Burlington Golf Club. He was a member of the Burlington Police Reserves for 26 years and had also served as president. He was an avid tennis player and Cubs and Hawkeyes fan, enjoyed badminton, and loved dogs.
Survivors include his sister, Katherine (Lyle) Collins of Burlington, nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, and two brothers, Art and Delbert Richardson preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Sunday, February 20th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m.
The funeral service for Mr. Richardson will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 21st, in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Randy Langner officiating. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society and Great River Hospice House.
