Darla Jean Meyer, 59, of Burlington, died at 1:10 AM Saturday, January 27, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born April 4, 1958, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, she was the daughter of Willis Burl and Helen Maxine Lamm. On June 6, 1992, she married Ralph Earl Meyer, Jr. in Mt. Pleasant, IA. Darla was a member of Parkside First Baptist Church, and also a member of The Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Earl Meyer, Jr. of Burlington; one daughter, Rebecca J Richards of Burlington; one sister, Joyce McIntosh of Keosauqua; two nephews, Jarrod Burl (Ann) McIntosh of Keosauqua, and Kenneth George (Tisha) McIntosh of Gillette, WY; and one niece, Brandi Cole of Mt. Pleasant. Darla was one of three daughters from Willis Burl Lamm and Helen Maxine Lee Lamm. Darla Jean Meyer was a graduate of Mount Pleasant Community Schools in 1976. Shortly after, Darla attended Southeastern Community College where she received a degree in Cosmetology. Darla had an adventurous career where she was employed at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant, IA as a clerical secretary for 13 years. During that time, she also worked as a respiratory therapist assistant and a physical therapy assistant. In 1992, She and her husband Ralph moved to Burlington. While in Burlington, Darla worked as a City Clerk assistant in downtown Burlington. Darla was then employed at Hope Haven Area Development Center where she worked as an administrative assistant. Darla enjoyed participating in biblical studies, and other church functions; especially the Tuesday morning Ladies' group. She was very enthusiastic and outspoken regarding her faith, and was also eager to share her story with others. Darla also enjoyed her backyard hot tub, her two pugs (Willie & Sophie), visiting with friends and family, shopping at Younkers, and cooking with the intent of entertaining others. Darla was also known for her craft in scrap booking and card making with her dear friends. She and Ralph loved to vacation together with a few of their favorite spots being in Southern Florida, Branson, MO., Nashville, TN., Door County, WI., Galena, IL., Okoboji, IA., and Mexico. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mrs. Meyer will be 10:00AM Thursday, February 1, 2018, at Parkside First Baptist Church with Jason Unzicker officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Parkside Baptist Church following the burial. Memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society and Parkside First Baptist Church.
