Ismael Perez, 30, of San Diego, CA, formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, as the result of an automobile accident in San Diego. Born September 3, 1982, in Enseneda, Mexico, he was the son of Arturo Perez and Maria Chavez. He was raised by his step-father, Juan Reyes. Ismael had been working as a Human Resources Specialist for the Department of Defense. He was a 2001 graduate of West Burlington High School. He had received his bachelor's degree in graphic design and associate's degree in video editing from the Art Institute. He was a U.S. Marines Veteran, serving for eight years. He was a wonderful artist and graphic designer. He was a skilled painter, drawer, and sketch artist. He had wrestled and played soccer in high school. Survivors include his step-father and mother, Juan and Maria Reyes of Burlington; two brothers, Arturo Perez of West Burlington, and Juan Antonio Reyes, at home; one sister, Jennifer Marie Reyes, at home; his grandmother, Petra Pacheco of Baja California, Mexico; one nephew on the way; many aunts and uncles, including, Francisco Perez, Guadalupe Pulido, Margarita McPheron, Graciela Perez, Domingo Chavez, and Maria Dolorez; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jose Perez. Visitation with the family to receive friends will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mr. Perez will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Hess officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered by the Hamilton-Walters Marine Corp League #616.
