Vivian Elaine Rappenecker, 85, of Burlington, went to live with her heavenly Father at 12:20 PM, Sunday, January 8, 2012, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. She died peacefully with her family at her side. Born September 14, 1926, in Coppock, IA, she was the daughter of Ronald Franklin and Elizabeth Mae Carpenter Dold. She graduated from Winfield High School and entered nurses training at Mercy Hospital in Burlington. After nurses training, she moved to Seymour, IA and worked for Dr. Edwards in Centerville. In September of 1949, she married Hubert Allen Staggs. They were divorced after four years. She returned to Burlington and worked at Mercy Hospital. She spent most of her life nursing in Burlington and retired from Burlington Medical Center in 1988. In 1962, she married Edward H. Rappenecker, who served as a policeman for the City of Burlington and later as a court bailiff. Vivian enjoyed quilting, reading, gardening, keeping her home and spending time with her family. Survivors include two sons, Larry (Lori) Staggs of Burlington, and Rich (Cathy) Rappenecker of Springfield, IL; one daughter, Dori (Randy) Wegener of Lone Jack, MO; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gwen (Vern) Peterson of Mount Pleasant, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, her parents, one sister and brother-in-law, Corrine and John French, a nephew, Ronnie Peterson, and two great-nieces, Christine Martin and Lori Peterson. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mrs. Rappenecker will be 10:30 AM, Friday, January 13, 2012, at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Big Muddy's following the interment.A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
