Mr. Joe McClain, 77, of Covington, died at his residence Saturday, March 11. He was born March 1, 1923, in Thornton in Limestone County. He lived in Grand Prairie most of his life, and in the Covington area for the last six years. He married Clovis Putney on August 21, 1946. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy 20 years, retiring as Chief Petty Officer. He also was retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Grand Prairie after 19 years of service as a mail carrier in 1990. Survivors include his wife; five sons, Michael McClain of Covington,k Joel McClain of Milford, Brian McClain of Covington, Shawn McClain of Grand Prairie, and Dennis Putney of Modesto, California; one sister, Dorothy McLain of Lubbock; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
