Obituary
LEROY (LEE) PUTNAM - age 93, of Burlington, IA, devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, went home to be with his Lord on October 3rd, 2012. Lee married Virginia B. Putnam on October 25, 1942. They were married for 66 years prior to Virginia's death. Lee was a long time member of Oak Street Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and taught Sunday School. He served in the United States Army during WWII in Europe. He owned and operated Auto Body Company and was in the automobile industry for more than sixty-six years. Lee enjoyed flying and obtained a private pilot's license. He enjoyed car racing and helped his son, Jim to race cars professionally. He took up golf at the age of 89 and achieved a hole in one at age 92. He continued to play golf and worked until his death. He enjoyed people and was always anxious to visit with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his Father; Roy Putnam and Mother; Veleda (Petri) Putnam, Wife, Virginia B. Putnam and Son, James Lee Putnam. Lee was the second oldest in a family of twelve children and is survived by his youngest brother, Wilbur (Webb) Putnam, who lives in Burlington. Lee is also survived by his children and their spouses; Gary and LaDonna Putnam of Burlington, IA, Jerry and Susan Putnam of Oklahoma City, OK; Jayne and Jim Burritt of Knoxville, TN. Grandchildren, Ryan Putnam, Kansas City, MO; David Putnam, Davenport, IA; Andrea Burritt, Knoxville, TN; Adam Burritt, Knoxville, TN; Patrick Burritt, San Antonio, TX; and Lee Putnam Jr. of Indianapolis, IN. Great Grandchildren, Emma and Hayden of Davenport, IA and Megan of Knoxville, TN. Friends may call from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 5, 2012 at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm on Saturday, October 6th at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, Iowa. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with graveside service to follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Oak Street Baptist Church and Juvenile Diabetes Association.
