Obituary
Jimmie C. Bell, 74, of Burlington, formerly of rural Sperry, died at 10:28 pm Saturday, Jan. 3, 1998, at Burlington Medical Center.
Born Oct. 7, 1923, in Burlington, he was the son of Charles W. and Dorothy Bertlshofer Bell. On May 18, 1945, he married Marjorie Laughlin in Ottumwa.
Mr. Bell farmed in the Sperry area for 20 years. He was a car salesman in Fort Madison and Burlington for 21 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of First Christian Church and the Moose Lodge in Burlington. He loved family and music. He and his wife entertained for others for 50 years.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Judy (LaVone) Morley of Sperry; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister Suzanne Watson of Ft. Madison.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will begin after 8 am Wednesday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 pm.
The funeral for Mr. Bell will be at 1:30 pm Thursday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Traverce Harrison officiating Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for First Christian Church.
