Obituary
Jim Bell, 92, of Burlington, died at 1:10 PM Sunday, November 24, 2013, at his home. Born May 26, 1921, in Stoutsville, MO, he was the son of Herman William and Vivian R. Redman Bell. On February 26, 1945, he married Mildred Ethel Hart in Monroe City, MO. Throughout his life, Jim had worked at the parking ramp at Burlington Medical Center, the Des Moines Register as a distributer, Deery Brothers as a driver, at a bank in Quincy, at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Bock's Flower Shop, as a truck driver, and at Campbell Chain Co. He had retired from General Electric after 20 years. He was a 1940 graduate of Monroe City High School and was a graduate of Quincy College. He was a member of Parkside First Baptist Church where he had worked as a custodian, and the Organic Garden Club. He was a Master Gardener and was skilled at chair caning. He had worked at Election Boards, and enjoyed card parties, fishing with his family, and, in his younger years, square dancing. He especially enjoyed his grandkids and great-grandkids. Survivors include his wife, Mildred; five sons, Daniel Bell Sr. of Burlington, James (Cheryl) Bell Jr. of Danville, Wayne (Gloria) Bell of Burlington, Ernest (Debbie) Bell of Burlington, and Darrell (Rose) Bell of Lomax, IL; two daughters, Jean (Gary) Reeves of Burlington, and Susie (Tom) Albert of West Concord, MN; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and two on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Kenny Bell, one daughter, Janice Schneider, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, and two sisters, Francis and Dotie. Visitation will be from 8:00 AM until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, November 29, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home. The funeral service for Mr. Bell will be 10:00 AM Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Ron Jewett officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Parkside First Baptist Church following the burial.
