Obituary
Mr. Lloyd Potter, 95, of Burlington and formerly of Oelwein, died at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at his home. Born July 1, 1916 in Oelwein, he was the son of Halie Raymond and Nellie Mae Randall Potter. On June 28, 1939 he married Carol Anderson in Oelwein. She preceded him in death on September 1, 2000. Mr. Potter was a 1935 graduate of Oelwein High School. He was a supervisor at Hope Haven for 9 years, and worked at Campbell Chain for 13 years and Meyer Roofing Company for 18 years. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. Survivors include two sons, David (Jean) Potter of Manassas, VA and Steven (Kathleen) Potter of St. Joseph, MO and two grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert Erickson of Burlington; two sisters-in-law, Mary Kulp and Kay Anderson; numerous nieces and nephews and his best friend, "Socks". He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one infant daughter, three sisters and two brothers. The graveside memorial funeral service and inurnment for Mr. Potter will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19th, in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Susanne Smith will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Hope Haven Development Center. According to Mr. Potter's wishes, cremation has been accorded.
