Mrs. Delores (Dee) Porter, 88, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at Bickford Cottage. Born September 10, 1922, in Talmage, Nebraska, she was the daughter of William and Clara Schact Dermann. She attended Peru State University, Peru, Nebraska, and Lincoln School of Commerce, Lincoln, Nebraska, and was employed at Lincoln Air Base for three years. On January 16, 1946, she married Glen Porter in Nebraska City, Nebraska. He died August 12, 2006. She was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and a previous member of First United Church of Christ where she had taught Sunday School and was active in women's activities. She was a charter member of Burlington Women's Club, a member of PEO Chapter HU, TTT and Norman Circle of Kings Daughters. Survivors include three daughters, Susan (William) Bauer of Burlington, Karen (Dennis) Fenton of Cedar Rapids, and Debra (Steve) Cain of O'Fallon, Illinois; a son, Scott (Jeri) Porter of Waukee; a brother, Kenneth (Shirley) Dermann of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother-in-law, James Porter of Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, Jim Bauer and Kathleen Bauer of Burlington, Jennifer (Bryce) Simonton of Waukee, Jessica (Ryan) French of Des Moines, Jared (Heather) Porter of Westminster, Colorado, Mara Porter of Waukee, and Brian Cain, Erica Cain and Erin Cain, all of O'Fallon, Illinois; one great-granddaughter, Hayley Simonson of Waukee; and nieces and nephews. According to her wishes her body has been cremated. Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday, August 15th, in Lunning Chapel. The memorial funeral service for Mrs. Porter will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 16th, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), with the Rev. Dean Benton officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of fellowship and luncheon will be in Fellowship Hall of the Church following the service. In lieu of Flowers, a memorial has been established for First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
