Obituary

FORT MADISON, IA - Carolyn May "Mimi" Carter (Heath), R.N., passed away on April 29, 2018 at The Madison Memory Care Unit following a long illness.
Born in Chicago, IL on April 9, 1937 to the late Marion Curzon Health and Martha Matilda (Dalin) Heath, she was a resident of Burlington, IA, Boston Heights, OH, and Roundup, MT, returning to Burlington, IA in 2000. A graduate of Burlington Community High School, she received her Bachelor of Nursing from The University of IA in 1958. She was a nurses' nurse, her 40-year career including University of Iowa Hospitals, Hawthornden State Hospital, Burlington Medical Center, and Roundup Memorial Hospital, retiring as Director of Nursing in 2000. In retirement she volunteered as an intake nurse for the Burlington Battered Women's Shelter and Hopefully Yours. She was Mom to many and inspired many to enter nursing.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Arthur Magnuson, sons Charles and Mathew Schmidt, daughter Rebecca Schmidt, and son-in-law Brian Wacker. She is survived by her husband James Carter of Burlington, sister Susan (Tom) Wilson of Denver, CO, sons John (Tina) Schmidt and Michael (Jill) Schmidt of Kent, OH, daughter Greta Wacker of Clancy, MT, and step-daughter Jennine (Paul) Barnett of W. Burlington, IA. She cherished her grandchildren Scott Schmidt, Bethany Schmidt, Amanda (Steve) Happel, Jessica Wacker, Doug Schmidt, Rebecca Wacker, Jennifer Schmidt, and Bradley (Melinda) Barnett.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Donations may be made in Carolyn's name to the Alzheimer's Association, Burlington Chapter. The family plans private graveside services at Aspen Grove.
