Raymond John Pohlpeter, Jr., 76, of Burlington, died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born August 26, 1931, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Raymond J. Sr. and Myrtle Ann Miller Pohlpeter. On July 13. 1956, he married Marilyn Barnthouse in Burlington. She died January 7, 1994. Mr. Pohlpeter worked in production at Exide Co., retiring after 20 years in 1993. He also worked with Reliable Bail Bonding and Process Serving. He was a 1949 graduate of Fort Madison High School. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of Ashbury United Methodist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Tomi Lynn Watson of Greensboro, N.C., Kelly K. Pohlpeter of Clinton, and Amy A. Johnson of Burlington; one granddaughter; three brothers, Richard Pohlpeter of Fort Madison, Rolland Pohlpeter of Des Moines, and Larry Pohlpeter of El Reno, Okla.; five sisters, Mary Lou Fairlie of Swisher, Sylvia Pohlpeter, Carmen Pohlpeter, Connie Pohlpeter, and Peggy Pohlpeter all of Fort Madison; nieces; and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The body has been cremated. The funeral for Mr. Pohlpeter will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
