Linda Poffenbarger Svoboda, 52, of Burlington, died at 2:45 PM Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington Born June 20, 1960 in Burlington. She was the daughter of Douglas E. and Viola Lee Patton Poffenbarger. On December 6, 1993, she married Craig Svoboda. They later divorced.
Linda had worked at J.C. Penny's for 16 years and then worked as a teacher's aide for Grimes Elementary, Horace Mann Middle School and James Madison Middle School. She was currently working as night auditor for the Super 8 Hotel in Fort Madison. She graduated from Burlington High School and then attended school for medical coding. She was a past member of Grace United Methodist Church. She enjoyed computer games, making arts and crafts, her pets, and Christmastime. She especially loved spending time with her two grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Nick (Sarah) Bundy of Burlington, and Douglas Svoboda of Eldorado, IL; three daughters, Lisa (Jason Stewart) Bundy, Emily Svoboda, and Anna Svoboda, all of Burlington; two grandchildren, Abby Stewart, and Jaxson Stewart; two brothers, Jim D. (Tracy) Poffenbarger, and Wayne Poffenbarger, both of Burlington; one sister, Kathy (Michael) Holeton of Franklin, TN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, December 21, 2012 at Thielen Funeral Home. A private family committal service and inurnment will be held at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
