Viola L. Poffenbarger, 71, of Burlington, died at 5:58 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at her home. Born Feb. 8, 1936, in Kingston, she was the daughter of Walter and Bertha Lister Patton. On June 6, 1954, she married Douglas E. Poffenbarger in Burlington. Mrs. Poffenbarger was a homemaker. She was a 1954 graduate of Burlington High School. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Women of the Moose. She was an avid volunteer for the Burlington Bees concession stand. She enjoyed traveling. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Linda Svoboda of Burlington and Kathy Holeton of Antioch, Tenn.; two sons, Jim Poffenbarger and Wayne Poffenbarger, both of Burlington; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Kelly of Roseville, Ill.; two brothers, Earl Patton of DeSoto, Mo., and Wayne Patton of Burlington; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, three brothers and one granddaughter. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Poffenbarger will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Trevor Davis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
