Robert Payne Pilger, 68, of Burlington, died at 11:08 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2008, at his home. Born October 21, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of Robert Acres and Janet Evelyn Payne Pilger. On August 6, 1960, he married Nancy Jane Hand in Burlington. Mr. Pilger retired from J. I. Case Company after 34 years as a product design engineer. He worked for 10 years for Trinity Logistics as parts coordinator for J. I. Case. He was affiliated with First United Methodist Church. He was a member of Malta Lodge 318, Elks B.P.O.E. 84, Des Moines County Historical Society, Des Moines County Genealogical Society. He served on the board of Shoquoquon Boat Club as secretary-treasurer, and was past president of Aspen Grove Cemetery Association. Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Burlington; two sons, Robert Scott Pilger of Bettendorf, IA, and David Payne (Becky) Pilger of LeClair, IA; three daughters, Catherine Lynn (Ed) Timper of Bettendorf, IA, and Julie Ann Pilger and Sarah Jean (Sean) Cockrell both of Burlington, IA; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; four brothers, William Pilger, James Pilger, and John Pilger all of Burlington, IA, and Tom Pilger of Salt Lake City; three sisters, Jean Miller of Solon, and Joyce Pilger and Janet Brissey both of Burlington, IA; several nieces and nephews; and one aunt, Jean McGuire of Sun Valley, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Pilger will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Downing and Ken Royer officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for First United Methodist Church and GRMC Hospice House.
