Mary Louise Phillips, 86, of Burlington, died Monday, April 14, 2008, at the Great River Medical Center at 4:40 p.m. Born December 24, 1921, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Edward & Anna Krestine Koehler. On November 23, 1951, in Monmouth, IL, she married Melvin Phillips. He died on August 5, 1998. Mrs. Phillips worked at Winegard for ten years, and at the Ordinance Plant for two and one-half years. She loved animals. There will not be formal services as per Mom's wishes. Mom is with Dad now. All who knew her knew this is what she has been waiting for. Her life was on hold until today. She told me Dad is standing in the doorway. Be happy for her, they are together this I know. Survivors include three daughters; Peggy Phillips and Connie Porter both of Burlington, Pat Shaffer of New London; three sons, Mike Randal of Covington, GA, Herbert Plumel of San Diego, CA, Roy Steffen of Clear Falls, Iowa; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter Sandra Graham, three brothers Frank, Edward and George, one sister Anna Bessine. There will be no formal visitation or service as per her wishes, her body has been cremated. Burial will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Stopp Program for the neutering and spaying of animals
