Obituary

Phyllis A. Phillips, 90, of Burlington, died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday,April 5, 2012, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born January 21, 1922, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles and Minnie Hillen Stuck. On May 20, 1941, she married H.F. Mike Phillips in Burlington. He died May 3, 1977. Phyllis was a homemaker. She was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, and the Legion of Mary. She loved to play bingo, watch birds, and basketball games. She always attended Burlington Notre Dame's God's Portion Day. Survivors include two sons, Rev. Father Michael Phillips of Iowa City, and William C. "Bill" (Cindy) Phillips of Mediapolis; one daughter, Barb (Randy) Drish of Burlington; seven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and one brother. Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home. There will be a 5:00 PM Rosary and a Christian Wake Service until 6:00 PM. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Phillips will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Michael T. Phillips as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen community room following the interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Great River Hospice House, SS. John & Paul Catholic Church, and Sunnybrook.
