James Lewis Peterson, 57, of Burlington, died at 3:23 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 1998, at Burlington Medical Center. Born September 6, 1941, in Burlington, he was the son of Carl Anton and Rosilie Belle Nichols Peterson. He married Charleen Long on April 1, 1961, in Little York, Ill. Mr. Peterson was a toll taker at Des Moines County Landfill. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Burlington, and enjoyed clockmaking as a hobby. Survivors include three sons, James "Pete" Peterson, Carl Peterson, and John Peterson, all of Burlington; one daughter, Lynn Engen of Oquawka, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen Polson of Keithsburg, Ill., and Betty Myers of Oquawka; and one brother, Ronald Peterson of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and three brothers. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Peterson will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. James E. Gilbert, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
