Donald Lee Peterson, 78, of Burlington, formerly of Wever, died at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at Burlington Care Center in Burlington. Born Feb. 8, 1922, in Burlington, he was the son of Milton and Vida Sourwine Peterson. On May 5, 1953, he married Eva Mae Brandstetter Merritt in Burlington. Mr. Peterson was a World War II Army disabled veteran. He served in the Army infantry, and received the Purple Heart. At times he worked as an auctioneer. He attended First Christian Church, and was a member of disabled American Veterans, both of Burlington. Survivors included his wife; two daughters, Roxanne Lipper and Linda Kay Atha, both of Burlington; one stepson, Carl Merritt of Burlington; three grandchildren; three step-grandchilldren; two step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Huck Lumbeck of Oquawka, Ill.; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be aftr 10 a.m.today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Peterson will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. David Nash officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, with military rites conducted by VFW Posts No. 10102 and No. 9162, both of Burlington. A memorial has been established for First Christian Church.
