Marjorie "Marge" J. Peterson, 95, of Muscatine and formerly of West Burlington, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 4:15 a.m. at Lutheran Homes of Muscatine.
Born September 23, 1918, in Greybull, Wyoming, she was the daughter of John and Alice Parker Shay. On May 16, 1942, she married C. Roger Peterson in Canton, Missouri. He died October 12, 1969.
She graduated from Burlington High School Class of 1937.
Mrs. Peterson was a bank teller for Midwest Federal Savings and Loan and West Burlington Bank and retired as Secretary for Des Moines County Chapter of the American Red Cross in 1982.
She was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, was the oldest member, helped with church meals, and a member of the United Methodist Women.
"Marge" was a 25 year member of Kings Daughters, and did years of volunteer work for R.S.V.P., P.T.A., and Girl Scouts. She delivered mail to patients at Burlington Medical Center and Great River Medical Center and volunteered at Hope Haven and Hopefully Yours store until close to the age of 91.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan (Jack) Dougherty of Muscatine; granddaughter Amy (Mark) Fortenbacher of Muscatine, grandson Tim (Jennifer) Dougherty of Frankfurt, Germany; six great grandchildren, Josef, Ben, Luke and Joshua of Muscatine and Braydon and Brianna of Frankfurt, Germany; one sister, Mary Mack of Burlington; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Charles, James, Thomas and one sister Betty Puddicombe.
The funeral service for Mrs. Peterson will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 28th, 2014, in Lunning Chapel with Pastor Dan Schoepf officiating with the family receiving friends from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for United Methodist Women of West Burlington United Methodist Church and Hopefully Yours of Hope Haven.
