Edna C. Beestrum, 70, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Burlington, died Tuesday, March 12, 1991, at Clear Lake Texas.
Born in Burlington, she was the daughter of Theodore and Ruth Rhodes Peterson. She married Olaf Beestrum on Oct. 9, 1943, in Burlington. He died in 1955.
She was a 1937 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1940 graduate of the Junior College. She received her Master’s degree in library science from Texas Women’s College at Denton, Texas. She was a librarian at Parsons College in Fairfield until it closed and then was a librarian at the University of Houston from 1974 until 1986. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Sorority, the Phi Kappa Phi, the Delta Kappa Gama, the Alpha Beta Alpha, the American Association of University Women, the PEO Chapter in Fairfield, the Iowa Library Association, and was a charter member of the University of Houston Clear Lake Retirees Association.
Surviving are one daughter, Stephanie Greenstein, Houston, Texas; one son, Peter Beestrum, Rockford, Ill.; one sister, Harriet Heyer, Burlington; and six grandchildren.
The committal service for Mrs. Beestrum will be 11 am Saturday at Aspen Grove Cemetery with the Rev. David Lukov officiating. The body has been cremated.
A memorial has been established for the Hospice of Galveston, Texas. Sheagren Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
