Mr. Persinger is not buried here. His ashes were scattered. Wife wanted a veteran memorial for him though. David F. Persinger, 62, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, of a heart attack while riding his Honda Gold Wing with his wife, Virginia. Born April 23,1944, in Evanston, IL., he was the son of Dale E. and Evelyn W. Bartlett Persinger. On July 3, 1965, he married M. Virginia Romero in Albuquerque, N.M. For 23 years, Mr. Persinger was a machinist for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 2002. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Fort Myers, IAM Local, Amateur Radio General Class, NOEIF, Gold Wing Road Riders Association and a life member of Gold Wing Touring Association. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, boating, amateur radio, woodworking and motorcycling. He had motorcycled to all 48 continental states as well as Alaska, Canada and Mexico. He was active in the 55-plus community activities at Country Lakes Community where he resided. Survivors include his wife of Fort Myers; two sons, Greg Persinger of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., and Sean Persinger of Burlington; one daughter, Brenda Schaefer of Fort Myers; seven grandchildren; one brother, Larry Persinger of Norman, Okla.; two sisters, Darlene Wagner of Burlington and Joan Persinger of Denver, Colo.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. The memorial mass of the resurrection for Mr. Persinger will be at 11 a.m. Friday at SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington, with the Rev. Gerald Stouvenel as the celebrant. Full military honors will be accorded by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials have been established for Breast Cancer Society and Hope Haven.
