Mr. Lawrence "Penny" W. Pennebaker, 75, of Burlington died at 8:06 a.m. Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Great River Medical Center.
Born November 16, 1935 in Burlington, he was the son of Elbert and Betty Mae Lawrence Pennebaker. On October 11, 1982 he married Marigrace Mathes in Burlington.
Mr. Pennebaker was a New London High School graduate. He was an Army Korean Conflict veteran.
Mr. Pennebaker was an engineer at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for over 40 years. He was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed golfing, fishing and working on golf carts.
Survivors include his wife, Marigrace Pennebaker of Burlington; one son, Scott (Dawn) Pennebaker of Cedar Rapids; one stepson, Michael A. Mathes of Burlington; one grandson, Mark Thomas Pennebaker of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Robert (Pat) Pennebaker of Knoxville; one sister, Margaret "Sis" Cooper of Fairfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Pennebaker; and one brother, John Pennebaker.
Visitation for Mr. Pennebaker will be from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 8th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Des Moines County Humane Society and St. Jude Children's Hospital.
According to Mr. Pennebaker's wishes, cremation will be accorded following the visitation.
