Obituary
John A. Bednar, 72, of Route 1, Burlington, died at 8 pm Saturday, June 29, 1991, at Burlington Medical Center.
Born Dec. 26, 1918, in Hoover, he was the son of John and Mary Demchok Bednar. His parents came from Czechoslovakia and worked in the coal mines in Hoover.
He married Ethel E. Thomas Oct. 23, 1940, at St. Peter’s Church in Lovelia.
He was a truck driver for JI Case Co. and Hawkeye Motors before retiring. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Gard, West Burlington, and Donna Tessier, Burlington; one brother, Albert Bednar, Burlington; one sister, Mrs. John Klobnock, Pontiac, Mich.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm today with the visitation following until 8:30 pm at Lunning Chapel.
The service for Mr. Bednar will be 10 am Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.
