Obituary
Carl O. Pedersen, 86, of Burlington, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Sunnybrook in Burlington after a brief battle with cancer. Born November 28, 1923, in Racine, Wis., he was the son of Oluf and Anna Winther Pedersen. On September 6, 1952, he married Helen Medenwald in Madison. She died February 7, 1997. On February 22, 1998, he married Doris Mae Dickey Youngstrom in Burlington. Mr. Pederson worked 33 years for J.I. Case Co. in Rockford, Ill., and Burlington. He earned bachelor of science degrees in agricultural engineering and mechanical engineering. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, and was active in the youth group, property committee, and church council. He enjoyed golf, photography, woodworking, and maintaining his home and acreage. Survivors include his wife; three stepdaughters, Christine Youngstrom of Burlington, Carolyn Scheer of Marion, and Cathryn Youngstrom of St. Augustine, Fla.; one son, Charles Youngstrom of Naperville, Ill.; nine step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; two brothers, Edwood J. Pedersen of Little River, Calif., and James R. Pedersen of Cherry Valley, N.Y. nieces and nephews. Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. The funeral for Mr. Pedersen will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Messiah Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Susanne Smith officiating. Burial with military rites will be at 1:15 p.m in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlngton. A memorial has been established for Messiah Lutheran Church.
