John Russell Weir, 22, of Burlington, died on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born on Sept. 23, 1984, in Iowa City, he was the son of Russell L. Weir and Florence Petty. Mr. Weir was a roofer in the Burlington area. He attended Burlington High School and was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an archer, earning a trip to the world championship in archery two years in a row. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and Ted Nugent's World Bow Hunters Association. Survivors include his fiancee, Carrie R. Reusch of Burlington; his father of Burlington; his mother of Fort Madison; two sons, Thomas Weir and Spencer Weir, both of Burlington; three half brothers, Mike Nuss of Burlington, Cody Bierman and Andrew Rogers, both of Tuscon, Ariz.; one half sister, Christina Weir of Nashville, Tenn.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Weir will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. David Balzer officiating. Burial will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established.
