Gertrude Parham, 77, of Burlington, died at 6:57 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Great River Medical Center, West Burlington. Born May 18, 1923, in Arkadelphia, Ark., she was the daughter of Gladie and Susie McNeil Ross. On July 29, 1946, she married Nathaniel Parham in Little Rock, Ark. He died Nov. 19, 1966. Mrs. Parham was a homemaker and a production worker at J.I. Case Co., Burlington. She was a member of St. John AME Methodist Church of Burlington, and its mother usher and stewardess boards. She enjoyed people young and old, and was a mom and grandma to many. Survivors include two sons, Joe Nathan Parham and Gregory Parham, both of Burlington; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Nelson and Gladys Redd, both of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three nieces and nephews; great nieces; great nephews; and many cousins. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, three brothers, and her parents. Friends may call after noon today at Prugh's Chapel. The funeral for Mrs. Parham will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Revs. Fred Starling and Berry Cook officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington. A memorial has been established for the education of her grandchildren, Alexis and Michael.
