Jack Junior Pickens, 85, of Rancho Cucamonga, California, died at Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center in Loma Linda, California, on Saturday, November 17, 2012. Born on May 01, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the son of Jack and Lovie Gorden Pickens. He married Annie Mae Jeffers on March 15, 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri. She died April 9, 2011. Mr. Pickens had been cared for by his daughter in Rancho Cucamonga since 2003. Jack served in the Army from 1950-1952. He worked as a Correctional Officer at Mt. Pleasant Correctional Facility, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He enjoyed attending church services, listening to gospel and Jazz music, writing letters to the editor of the Hawkeye newspaper and sitting in the sunshine. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Burlington, Iowa and Cathedral of Praise International Ministries in Rialto, CA. He is survived by four daughters, Marquita Taylor of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Yvonne Stewart of St. Louis, Missouri and Joyce Wallace of Mississippi; Stacy Pickens of Burlington, Iowa and three sons, Craig Pickens of Burlington, Iowa, Darryl Pickens of Portland, Oregon and Perry Pickens of New Alexandria, Pennsylvania; Daughter Jacqueline Boyd presided her father 29 grandchildren; one sister, Mildred McCarty of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three brothers, Donnell Pickens and Clifford Pickens, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Alfred Pickens of St. Louis, Missouri; 36 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie, daughter - Jacqueline Boyd and his parents. Funeral services for Jack Junior Pickens will be held on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Full Gospel Fellowship Church, Burlington, Iowa. Rev. Lawrence Manson will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
