Harold Edward Otto, 78, of Burlington died Thursday, May 13, 2004 at 6:10 p.m. of cancer at Burlington Care Center. Born January 14, 1926, at Burlington, he was the son of Edward A. and Emma L. Oetken Otto. On October 2, 1971, he married Alice Loraine Wemhoener at Burlington. She died November 22, 1995. Mr. Otto worked at the Burlington Post Office as a U.S. Postal Distribution Clerk for 41 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church where he was currently serving as a church deacon. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mr. Otto was known as a kind and gentle man. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII serving from January 1945 to July 1946 as a Seaman 2nd Class. Survivors include three nephews, David (Sandi) Behne of Ft. Madison, Joel (Tamara) Behne and Mark (Maureen) both of Burlington; four nieces, Ann (Dennis) Gerst of Mediapolis, Carole (Bob) Beck of Danville, Kathleen (Gregg) Mason and Christina (Kevin) Moore both of Burlington; and numerous great nieces, great nephews and cousins. His wife and parents preceded him in death. Visitation will start at 9:00 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The funeral service for Mr. Otto will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Oak Street Baptist church with the Rev. Jason Unzicker and the Rev. Vicki Engelmann officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. memorials have been established for Oak Street Baptist church and Great River Hospice.
