William "Glen" Osbourne, 97, of Burlington, died at 3:20 PM Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington. Born December 20, 1915, in Monroe City, MO, he was the son of John Leslie and Mary Grace Frye Osbourne. On August 26, 1943, he married Eleanor Richmond in Hannibal, MO. She died on October 1, 1998. Glen was a teacher and coach for Danville and Burlington Community Schools for 36 years. He was a 1934 graduate of McCooey High School in Hannibal, Missouri and then graduated from Northeastern Missouri State Teachers College in 1938. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran, serving during the World War II from 1943 until 1946. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf after his retirement. Coaching was very important to Glen, working with kids and seeing them improve. Survivors include three sons, Rick (Pam) Osbourne of Naperville, IL, John "Chip" (Judy) Osbourne of Grapevine, TX, and Mac (Roxanne) Osbourne of Burlington; six grandchildren, Damon (Margaret) Osbourne, Kendra Osbourne, Cody Osbourne, Ryan (Nicole) Osbourne, Adam (Jenna) Osbourne, Kristin (Colter) Levinson, four great-grandchildren, Owen Osbourne, Josie Osbourne, Penelope Osbourne, and Kenlee Levinson; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters. Cremation has been entrusted to Thielen Crematory. There will be no service, a memorial visitation will be from noon until 4:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2013, at Thielen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for the Burlington Homeless Shelter, the Burlington Salvation Army, and the American Parkinson Disease Association.
