Obituary
Harold Edward Orton, 83, of Burlington, Iowa, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2007, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Born May 31, 1923 in Burlington, he was the son of Roger Thomas and Clara Sommerfeld Orton. On July 30, 1945, he married Alene S. Swadley in New Baston, Texas. Mr. Orton was a 1942 graduate of Burlington High School and was an Army Veteran serving from November 1942 until October of 1945 and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Orton retired as a supervisor after 38 years with J.I. Case Co. He was a member of First Christian Church – Disciples of Christ. He was also a proud member and past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 150, past Iowa State President and past West Central Regional President. His Ritual Team was inducted into the Hall of Fame and Mr. Orton was inducted into the Iowa State Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall of Fame in 2002. He was also a member of the Eagle’s Old Farts Club. He was a life member of V.F.W., American Legion Post 52, and a member of Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening and was a sports fan, especially for the Cubs and Bears and University of Iowa Hawkeyes. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Alene Orton of Burlington; one daughter, Karen (Steve) Anderson of Burlington; three grandchildren, Ryan (Bethany) Anderson of Iowa City, Elise Anderson and Sarah Anderson both of Burlington; one great grandson, Brody Edward Anderson of Burlington; one brother, Robert Orton of Burlington; one sister, Helen Rawlings of Burlington; and many nieces and nephews. His parents and two sisters, Betty Engle and Barbara Mylon preceded him in death.
