Mrs. Alene S. Orton, 85, of Burlington, died at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born August 13, 1925, in Iowa Park, Texas, she was the daughter of Edward and Allie Bailey Swadley. On July 30, 1945, she married Harold E. Orton in New Boston, Texas. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2007. Mrs. Orton was a graduate of Kemp High School in Kemp, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker, and also worked for Sears for seven years, and had worked for Sylvania. She and her husband were very active in the Eagles Lodge, where Mrs. Orton was a charter member and past local president of the Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed her time with the Eagles, where she met many lifelong friends. She loved going to dances with her husband and attending conventions all over the country. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed going to the casino, and going to the campground with her grandchildren. She above all loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter, Karen (Steve) Anderson of Burlington; three grandchildren, Ryan (Bethany) Anderson of Iowa City, and Elise Anderson and Sarah Anderson, both of Burlington; two great-grandchildren, Brody Edward Anderson of Burlington, and Lydia Joy Anderson of Iowa City; and nieces and nephews. Her husband; parents; four brothers, Rupert Swadley, Bailey Swadley, J. D. Swadley, and Charlie Swadley; and three sisters, Virginia Roberson, Imogene Kemp, and Emily Davis, preceded her in death. Friends may call from noon until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 7th, in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. The funeral service for Mrs. Orton will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 8th, in Lunning Chapel. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Eagles Cancer Fund and Great River Hospice.
