Margaret Louise Bruhl, 95, of Burlington since 1938, formerly of Fort Madison, died at 8:37 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born Sept. 12, 1905, in Hannibal, MO, she was the daughter of George C. and Emma P. Leicht Hassman. On March 31, 1923, she married Charles Arnold Poindexter in Keokuk. He died Dec. 25, 1936. She married Chalmer L. Shirey on June 29, 1938, in Burlington. He died June 9, 1947. On Jan. 22, 1948, she married George M. Orendorff in Kahoka, MO. He died Jan. 20, 1966. She married Clarence F. Bruhl on July 27, 1968, in Burlington. He died March 2, 1983. Mrs. Bruhl was a graduate of Fort Madison High School. She worked as a clerk at J.S. Schramm's department store in Burlington, retiring in 1968. Prior to that, she worked at St. Francis Continuation Care Center, and also in doctors' offices. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, and a past member of Burlngton Organ Club, which met at Mundt Piano and Organ Co. Survivors include two sons, Richard C. Poindexter of Burlington, and Jack P. Poindexter of Osprey, Fla.; two daughters, Joyce L. Esty and Irma DeVauld, both of Burlington; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nehews. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, three infant sons, one great-great-grandson, two brothers, and three sisters. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Bruhl will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Engstrom officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Bethany Lutheran Church.
