Obituary
Jon “Oppie” Douglas Oppenheimer, son of devoted parents Richard and Carol (deceased) Oppenheimer peacefully died Monday, June 27th, 2016 at Great River Hospice; age of 62.
He was born December 18, 1953 in Burlington, IA.
After high school, he married Andrea Kliegl and enlisted in the US Army going on to serve as a Medic during the Vietnam War. He then obtained a degree in Industrial Safety Education from Iowa State University. Although divorced at this time, he spent the next 10 years living in Texas to be near his two daughters. After returning to Burlington, he worked for 20 years in Iowa/Illinois as a residential & commercial contractor focused on interior finishes work.
His survivors include daughters: Jennifer Oppenheimer & Bridget (Oppenheimer) Flocco, his father Richard Oppenheimer of Burlington, siblings: Joanna Morgan, Janette Oppenheimer, & Jeff Oppenheimer, grandchildren: Koen & Carina Flocco, plus several nieces, a nephew, and several grandnieces/nephews.
He enjoyed a multitude of friends and was a man who never met a stranger. Oppie was a generous friend who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be missed by many.
Immediately after his death, Jon has donated his body to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for medical research.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM with the family to receive friends Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.
Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard, for Mr. Oppenheimer will be at noon on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.
