Marston Dean "Ole" Olson, 81, of Burlington, died at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington. Born January 6, 1929, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Shell Ernest and Ellen Kathryn Halverson Olson. On October 31, 1953, he married Rosemary Schmidt in Burlington. Mr. Olson worked as a communication tech at AT&T Technologies, formerly Western Electric Co., for 32 years, retiring in 1983, and then as an inspector for Low Rent Housing. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1946. He served as private first class in the Marine Corps from June 1, 1946 to April 29, 1947. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Burlington, where he served as past church council president, on the finance committee, and with the altar guild. He enjoyed yard work, golfing, and fishing. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Scott S. Olson and Todd B. Olson, both of Burlington, and Gregg A. Olson of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Paula L. Johnson of Warrenton, VA; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one his twin, and one sister. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Erick E. Swanson officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Hass-Thielen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
