Caroline Louise Freytag Becker, 94, of Burlington, died at 3:54 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Burlington Medical Center. Born April 6, 1905, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Henry Frederick and Lydia Fredrica Bauer Freytag. On June 20, 1928, she married Leslie E. Becker in Burlington. He died Aug. 24, 1989. Mrs. Becker was a graduate of Burlington High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Kline Manufacturing for 45 years. She was a lifetime member of Zion United Church of Christ, and a member of the Christian Service Circle, Mixed Spices, Adah-Dorcas Circle, and the former Lydia Circle. She taught and served in the Zion Junior Department for more than 50 years, including 16 years as department superintendent. She was a past officer of Des Moines County American Association of Retired Persons No. 820. She volunteered at Klein Hospital for eight years, and was a member of Burlington Medical Center Auxiliary and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Survivors include nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in Lunning Chpael. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in Zion United Church of Christ. The funeral for Mrs. Becker will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Zion United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Gary Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Zion Unnited Church of Christ.
