Mary E. Oetken, 90, of rural New London, died Friday, February 8, 2008, at her home. Born July 4, 1917, in Burlington, she was the daughter of James and Gretchen Seiler Morris. On October 8, 1938, she married Vernon Oetken in Kahoka, MO. He died June 28, 2006. Mrs. Oetken was a homemaker. She worked for Hicks & Ragland Engineering in Lubbock, Texas, for 13 years. She was a graduate of Burlington High School and attended nurses training in Burlington. She was affiliated with Burlington Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida. Survivors include one daughter, Maribeth Moravec of New London; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Phoebe Buesch of Osceola and Nancy Henrickson of Biggsville, Ill. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter; one son and her parents. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Elliot Chapel in New London, where family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Oetken will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elliott Chapel. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. A memorial has been established for Burlington Baptist Church.
