Mark David Nuss, 76, of Burlington, died at 8:05 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Great River Hospice House, West Burlington, Iowa. Born March 10, 1933, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Arthur and Louise Victoria Harris Nuss. On May 6, 1955, he married Carolyn Rae Audsley in Burlington, Iowa. Mark was a Navy veteran. He was a professional painter and wallpaper installer. He was the owner of Nuss Painting and Wallpapering. He painted and papered many homes in Burlington; it was a hobby as well as a job to him. He loved to hunt, fish, and camp. He also enjoyed playing cards and watching NASCAR. His grandchildren were very special to him. He and Carolyn loved to babysit for their great-grandson Jack, and take him for stroller rides. He loved to visit with friends, and deliver meals for GRMC Home Delivered Meals. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; one son Steven (Sue) Nuss of Burlington; one daughter, Debra Moore of Burlington; seven granddaughters, Sommer (Chase) Burroughs, Shelbie (James, her fiancee) Moore, Melissa (Josh) Edgington, Jackie & Chelsie Mason, and Amy & Sarah Tappendorf; two grandsons, Tony Mason and Chris (Kelle) Tappendorf; three great-grandsons, Jack Burroughs and Isaiah & Jordan Edgington; one brother, Larry Nuss of Burlington; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one stillborn brother, Mark Charles Nuss; one daughter, Julie Mason; and one great-grandson, Jackson Edgington. Funeral services for Mark David Nuss will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Prugh's Chapel. Pastor Dean Benton will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends in Prugh's Chapel on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A memorial has been established for First Christian Church and Great River Hospice House.
